How to Invoke True Change

When it comes to change, there are only two kinds of people in the world - those that adjust to it and those that embrace it. I used to believe that the two ideas were “love change” and “hate change,” but I’ve learned over the years that it doesn’t really matter how I feel about it. The only way change can actually affect reality is by how I respond to it. We can choose to hate change and adjust or to facilitate change and thrive.

Christians have the ability to be the most powerful group of people on the face of the earth. We not only can have the desire to see hearts and lives changed, we are able to invoke this true change. We do not have to be limited by time, space, and ability. We know the source of our true power - God Himself - and the only thing that moves the heart and hand of God is His people in prayer. We must beseech God on behalf of our families, our cities, and our world. Timothy wrote that our prayers should be for all men, especially for those in authority. (1 Timothy 2:1-4) It is necessary for us to understand that our petitions are made known to the only Being in the universe that has the power and ability to intervene and rewrite history.

Before you get bogged down and think that prayer is outdated or too much of a burden, let me enlighten you to one principle of prayer – the discipline and practice of prayer are just as important as the eloquence or length of our speech. I am here to tell you that God just wants to communicate with His children. Even though He knows us and He may know what we yearn for, He still needs and wants to hear from us. God has spent several millennia trying to establish a relationship with His man and now the only variable is on our end of the commitment.

If we desire to see our entire world affected and if we want to help establish the Kingdom of God on this earth, then we must humble ourselves and pray. If we still think that our nation needs healing, we must tell our Lord.
(2 Chronicles 7:14) When Moses was recounting the events of the Israelites’ journey, he wrote a very powerful portion of Scripture. Deuteronomy 3:24 says, "O Sovereign Lord, you have begun to show to your servant your greatness and your strong hand. For what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do the deeds and mighty works you do?” There is no other being or creation that can affect this world like the Almighty God. So for the sake of our generation and the hundreds of generations that may come, let us forever draw close and enter into a communication-driven relationship with the Lord God. Prayer is the only way to invoke everlasting, true change.
