Taming Teamwork

Whether it’s in the community, the church, or the world - people are looking to be led. If we, the body of Christ, are not present to show the way of true leadership, the way of Christ and the cross, then the people will turn to anyone and anything for guidance. I believe that the leadership of the church and the members of the body of Christ need to focus, get down to business, become the leaders that God knows we can be, and change our community for the furtherance of the Kingdom.

We have one mission: “Go, preach, and make disciples.” This call, and everything else the church stands doe, is being challenged like never before. Our authority and our abilities are being taken for granted. Many ministries are functioning in areas God never intended for then to be in. Just because the Word says, “the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just” doesn’t mean that we are to spend all of our time looking for it. (Proverbs 13:22) Our commitment is to God and to the call of God on our life.

Now is the time we ask ourselves: Do we stand or do we fall? Do we sink or do we swim? Do we succeed or do we fail?

Ministry today is not an “either-or,” but rather a “do-or-die.” We must demonstrate and proclaim the character of God to this lost and hurting world. To do so, we must work as a team. leaders, workers, volunteers, churches, and individual believers alike must be a part of this team.

TO THE LEADERS...
Proper, Godly leadership is vital to a church’s continued existence and success- both spiritually and physically speaking. A recent survey revealed that most local church problems are predominately leadership related and rarely spiritually related. Remember, a church or a church program can rise no higher than its leader or go any farther than the leadership can successfully lead them. People cannot follow a parked car! They cannot hear what is not being said! A leader must know where they are going and how they plan to get there. A leader must always be mindful that there are others what are following their lead. As a leader, you can’t expect them to follow any faster than you’re leading and you cannot send them where you cannot take them.

TO THE FOLLOWERS:
While you may not be in charge, you are nonetheless and fundamental part of the leadership of your church or ministry. Your leaders and your churches need your support, prayers, and assistance. The Bible tells us that, to be established, we each need a man of God in our lives. We all need to be rooted and grounded in the Word. The family-like support and fellowship that a local church body provides is essential to spiritual growth and soundness.

It’s not said very often, but followers and “team players” need to know that a leader is only as good as the people he leads and those he is around. Followers need to stand with and for their leaders. Just like the quarterback of the football team, one man may call the play but the team must go with it - defending, blocking, receiving, and running. So, find yourself a church and a leader that you can get behind, pray for, and follow. When we all play together, we can make a lasting impression in our world for the glory of God.

TO THE TEAM, AS A WHOLE...
The world we serve is hungry for something. Whether it be attention, appreciation, or acceptance; the body of Christ must be prepared to help them. If we do not present the life-changing Word of God, the world will fall for, accept, and live on the lie being presented unto them elsewhere. We must be focused. It is imperative that we, as a team, are refreshed and refueled. We have to be contagious. We must have something to offer - something that we have evidence for and faith about.

The harvest is ripe and ready but dying in the field. We must pay the price, work together, and establish the principles of the Kingdom of God if we are to be successful at what the Lord has given us to do. There has been separation long enough. We need now to work as a team, leaders and laborers alike, forever impacting our society and those around us.

Matthew 9:37-38 (NLT)
“He said to his disciples, The harvest is so great, but the workers are so few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask Him to send out more workers for His fields.”
