Do you ever wonder what the good Lord was thinking when He created you? Do you ever ponder what He had in mind for your life on earth? To quote Andy Rooney, “I know I have.” And despite all the answers I’ve found, I still ask, “Why does the road of my life have so many pot holes in it?”
First, we need to know that God has created us and that we are not a mistake. We did not originate from a big blast, thus evolving from a fish. Goodness gracious, if that were the case, I would at least be able to float on my back when I go swimming. But Genesis 1:27 tells us that God created us in His image. The writer then goes on to explain that man was created for God’s pleasure and communion. Unfortunately, while in the garden, man fell from grace and was separated from God. Thankfully, God had a master plan in place from the beginning of time; a plan to bridge the gap that separated God and man - a bridge by the name of Jesus!
Jeremiah 29:11-14 tells us that God knows the plans that He has for us, plans to prosper and not to harm, plans to give us hope and a future. Then, when we call upon Him, He will listen to us. We can seek Him with all of our heart and find Him. It‘s like when you play hide and seek with your kids, you anticipate the joy expressed when they find you. There is so much excitement in the air! Similarly with God, He rejoices in our prayers and request for His presence.
From many lessons learned, I know the best laid plans of mouse and men can all go astray. I have known that to be true both in my own life as well as in the plans that I have for my children. I have seen the will of man overpower the will of God, leaving us questioning God as to why we are in a predicament. However, allowing God’s will to be done in our lives often requires waiting and surrendering the controls. When we finally surrender our will and allow the will of God to manifest in our lives, then we can begin to see what we are here on earth for. We can then thrive abundantly.
In Acts 1, Jesus instructed the disciples to tarry in the city of Jerusalem until they be endued with power from on high. They were to receive the power of the Holy Spirit so they would be empowered to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ with boldness. Along with spreading the Gospel, they were to lay hands on the sick, bind up the broken hearted, loose the chains that bound God’s creation, and release the oppressed. This same power is still alive today for every believer! God has given gifts to all believers from birth - gifts that are intended to be used to fulfill His will. These include, but are never limited to the gifts of helps, service, teaching, administration, leadership, and mercy. Now couple those gifts with the anointing and we have everything we need to make sure all men and women on earth are set free from the things in life that hinder them from becoming what God wants them to be. God desires that we not only hear the gospel of Jesus Christ, but receive the empowering given to us through the Holy Spirit.
We all need to overcome the things in our past so that we can be about the business of the future. Yes, you as an individual. You must understand that you don't have to be a pastor of a church or an evangelist to be used by God. He uses everyday people just like you and me. You can and will be used mightily if you exercise God’s will and allow the Holy Spirit to lead, guide, and direct your steps. God will always bring people across your path that need to hear what you have to share. Scripture tells us that all of heaven rejoices when one soul is added to the kingdom of God. As you go through your daily activities, be open to the leading of the Spirit of God. Listen to the small voice God has placed in you and commune with Him. Spend time in His Word. He wants to fellowship with us here on earth as well as spend eternity with us in heaven. Life on earth is for a season, and God really did place you here for a reason. As you submit your will to His, expect to see God begin to move in your life. Lord not my will but thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven!
