“I will meditate on Your precepts, And contemplate Your ways. I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.”
Psalms 119:15-16
“Hear my prayer, O Lord, Give ear to my supplications! In Your faithfulness answer me, And in Your righteousness. Do not enter into judgment with Your servant, For in Your sight no one living is righteous. For the enemy has persecuted my soul; He has crushed my life to the ground; He has made me dwell in darkness, Like those who have long been dead. Therefore my spirit is overwhelmed within me; My heart within me is distressed. I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Your works; I muse on the work of Your hands. I spread out my hands to You; My soul longs for You like a thirsty land. Selah”
Psalms 143:1-6

This life greets us each day with many choices. It almost reminds me of an all-you-can-eat buffet - we have options, some that suit our needs and others that aren’t so appetizing. The only way I can honestly know that my life will be built correctly is when I allow it to be built by God.
The Lord has ordered certain things and it is my obligation and privilege to do them. When God says, “Be holy,” it should be my desire to fulfill His wishes. If He asks me to evangelize my school or neighborhood, it’s my responsibility to live a life and share a testimony that the Lord would be pleased with. Every action I take and every word that I say is a representation of my character. My character then reflects on my family, my profession, my interests, and even on my God.
Churches have been hurt by hypocrites; believers have been led astray by sheep in wolves clothing. Both of those examples are extreme, but the principle works just as well for us everyday, mundane Christians. Whether or not you have a pulpit to stand in, there is always an audience and a congregation evaluating your every move.
I pray that we all allow God to build our lives. Our wishes should be His wishes; our will should mirror His; our desires reflect His own. This is a tall order and would be impossible without the Lord’s intervention. See, He made a way for us to know Him. David knew that God was his only answer and he said it best in the two passages above. It’s all about taking time for God, speaking to Him, listening to Him, and maybe even speaking for Him.
Our daily lives can be bombarded with worldly charms and temptations that hit too close to home, but if we seek God, our lives can also be surrounded with peace, love, acceptance, strength, and righteousness. Let us rely on the One who asked for such great sacrifice. His words are full of hope and His Spirit has never failed. Even in darkness, His light is not dim and His ear is not heavy. My soul does long for God, and my God feeds my thirst and hunger. My life is exactly what I’ve always dreamed of because it was built-to-order by the Lord Himself.
